Freight in Advance (Freight Prepaid)It is a form of payment where part of the freight bill of lading is paid in advance and the rest is paid as guaranteed freight.
Air Cargo (Air Waybill)Any goods such as freight, mail, express cargo that are or will be transported by airplane. It does not include passenger baggage.
Aircraft Pallet It is the use of a platform or pallet (usually 3/4 to 2 in thickness for air freight) on which pre-unitized cargo rests, or on which the goods are assembled, stored and unitized before being loaded onto the aircraft. Packaging allows much more efficient use and better management of the goods handling capacity on board the aircraft, driving other advances such as pallet loaders and carriers, especially when used as part of mechanized systems.
Air Freight A service provided for the transportation of goods by air in any volume.
Bonded Warehouse When goods are stored in warehouses with the permission of customs authorities, tax payments are deferred until the goods are withdrawn from the warehouse.
Booking It is the prior arrangement with the ship or air carrier for the acceptance and transportation of the cargo.
Brokerage In order for the goods to reach the final recipient, the document goes to customs for clearance.
Cargo Agent An agent (e.g. ISC) is appointed by the airline to handle the solicitation and processing of international air freight. Cargo agents are paid a commission by airlines.
Carrier It is the company that takes responsibility for the transportation of the goods according to its contractual agreement with the shipper.
Certificate of Origin It is a document requested to prove the origin of certain goods (mostly for compliance with tariff requirements)
Collect Charges It is a transportation service in which the agent collects the purchase price of the goods from the consignee when the goods are distributed; payment is then transferred to the consignor through the carrier. Agents charge a nominal fee for this service. The term COD means that payment will be made after distribution. There is no possibility to provide credit in COD service.
Commodity Code Customs assigns an appropriate number to the specific goods being imported or exported. Within the framework of the brokerage process, this number will ensure that the rate of duty payable on the import of the goods is in accordance with the previously concluded contract.
Dangerous Goods Dangerous goods are substances or articles that may pose a risk to human health, life and property safety and goods classified according to ICAO – (Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods) and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations in their latest published form when transported by air. Dangerous goods can be transported domestically and internationally.
Export ServiceAirlines, shipping agents (lines) or Forwarders, according to the shipper’s requirements, carry out many transfer-based services, storage and documentation of the goods to be exported. All airlines and shipping agents have a schedule of all appropriate transfer and documentation procedures and prices to be charged from the airport or port of origin to the airport or port of destination.
Freight The service is offered for the transportation of goods, all types of goods, small packages to the airport. Mail, express and passenger baggage are not included.
House Air WaybillA loading document used by agents for air freight. An interim bill of lading will be consigned from one customer to another and will have a specific reference for each shipment. It covers the terms of carriage of the contracting agent for the cargo to be transported, including limits of liability and procedures requested. The interim bill of lading also contains the loading instructions for the destination agent, the description of the goods and the applicable transportation charges.
Joint Rate The display in a single quotation of pricing where air carriers in the air and carriers on the ground are 2 or more in the quotation.
Master Air Waybill (MAWB)A loading document used by airlines for air freight. The master bill of lading is usually consigned from one ISC office to another and is composed of several intermediate bills of lading. It is a contract detailing the carrier’s terms of carriage, covering issues such as limits of liability and entitlement procedures. The air waybill also contains loading instructions to the airlines, a description of the goods, information on applicable transportation charges.
Port of Entry The designation of an airport or seaport by state authorities to serve purposes such as accepting entries of trade goods, collecting taxes and applying different versions of customs procedures.
ProformaWhen used in combination with another document name (e.g. pro forma invoice, pro forma manifest), this means that an informal document is presented before the arrival or preparation of the requested documents in order to ensure customer satisfaction by meeting customer requiremen
